<image:caption>Michael Mykola Haleta is an artist, educator, graphic designer and independent image researcher focusing on patterning systems in typography, performance and sound design. This sculpture is part of an ongoing series of typographic forms that I am migrating into large scale 3D sculptures. Each sculpture is made of 4 distinct forms which can interlock together in a multitude of angles and ways. Each piece is meant to be reassembled into a different configuration at the end of every gallery day. 6’ 5” x 5’ 6” x 4’ 6”, CNC Router, Birch plywood, wood glue, oak dowels, 2017-2019.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Aria DD-X10 Digital Delay Guitar Effects: Circuit Bent Pedal #6: Aria made cheap guitar effects pedals throughout the 1980’s that were great for circuit bending experiments. The backing on these pedals was very easy to remove which made it easy to access and play and create feedback points throughout the entire circuit board terrain. I would normally use different colored stickers and sharpie markers to create notes directly on the circuit board. These pedals sounded so great when played unconventionally! More info on this particular Aria pedal here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Patterns - Barcode Scan Graph: Parametric Typography: July 29, 2019.</image:title>
<image:caption>Barcode Scan Graph: Parametric Typography: July 29, 2019. [Excerpt taken from Wikipedia] A barcode is a method of representing data in a visual, machine-readable form. Initially, barcodes represented data by varying the widths and spacings of parallel lines. These barcodes, now commonly referred to as linear or one-dimensional (1D), can be scanned by special optical scanners, called barcode readers. Later, two-dimensional (2D) variants were developed, using rectangles, dots, hexagons and other geometric patterns, called matrix codes or 2D barcodes, although they do not use bars as such. 2D barcodes can be read or deconstructed using application software on mobile devices with inbuilt cameras, such as smartphones. The barcode was invented by Norman Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver and patented in the US in 1951. The invention was based on Morse code[2] that was extended to thin and thick bars. However, it took over twenty years before this invention became commercially successful. An early use of one type of barcode in an industrial context was sponsored by the Association of American Railroads in the late 1960s. Developed by General Telephone and Electronics (GTE) and called KarTrak ACI (Automatic Car Identification), this scheme involved placing colored stripes in various combinations on steel plates which were affixed to the sides of railroad rolling stock. Two plates were used per car, one on each side, with the arrangement of the colored stripes encoding information such as ownership, type of equipment, and identification number. The plates were read by a trackside scanner, located for instance, at the entrance to a classification yard, while the car was moving past. The project was abandoned after about ten years because the system proved unreliable after long-term use.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Improvisational Grids: Vol. 1 An ongoing book collaboration by NY poet Jeremy Sigler and multidisciplinary artist Mykola Haleta. “The choice was just to put our stuff together in close proximity like the two cyclist on Harley’s sharing the open road in Easy Rider. Or maybe a nerdier image. Mike’s patterns have electricity in them. So the one prose poem of me being electrocuted seems to dovetail nicely. I think of fuse boxes and circuitry and wiring. Like finding a gorgeous Deco lamp from the 20’s and plugging it in and blowing a fuse or seeing sparks. You know how old lighting fixtures often have corroded wiring. The relation in my verse poems to patterning is another idea altogether. I prefer to just see us as happily autonomous but sharing the open highway at high speed.” —Jeremy Sigler, August 6, 2018 Design and Patterning Systems by Mykola Haleta. Words by Jeremy Sigler. <image:title>Design Materials - Vyshyvanka Grids (Dedicated to Marfa Moliar Haleta)</image:title>
<image:caption>Open Pop Press #2: Vyshyvanka is a type of Ukrainian embroidery, which contains colourful and geometric patterning, contrasting colours and a wide range of stitch types. It has a rich visual history within Ukrainian folk culture; functioning as both a visual map of the region of its owner and as a symbolic and superstitious protective shield. The following three pages contain scans of a Ukrainian embroidery zine mailer which my grandmother, Marfa Moliar Haleta, subscribed to and collected as religiously as a 7-year-old would collect baseball cards and comic books in the 1980’s. My first encounter with her embroidery templates collection happened at the age of 7. The “Vyshyvanka Grids” from page 6 onwards were designed and assembled using components with a value of 1 point for line width and adhere to a 1/8 inch unit system. Throughout the course of the book, the “Vyshyvanka Grids” grow, mutate, geometrize and decay. They force you to squint to see the camouflaged colour-grid texture melds and optical wave rubbing. If I was living in Ukraine now my vyshyvanka would look like this... Edition of 3 Artist Proofs. Edition of 100 to follow shortly. 6" w x 9" h</image:caption>

Research on quartz crystals as well as the functionality of Weeping Willow trees used in bioremediation sites was also included into the later phases of project completion. 32’ x 32’ Circle Area, 6 Weeping Willow Trees, 24 quartz crystals, man-made island, silk-screen, 2017-2019.</image:caption>

This exhibition opens up the main artery of 1960s and 1970’s minimalism through a beautiful display of rare artist books, show catalogues, artist prints, posters and printed ephemera. The collection highlights uncelebrated artists from a range of disciplines such as Deborah Remington, Georg Karl Pfahler, Lygia Clark, Larry Zox, Beverly Pepper, Sven Lukin, Anne Truitt, William Pye, Bridget Riley, Friedrich Grasel as well as revered artists from Ken Price to Frank Stella. <image:caption>Improvisational Grids: Vol. 2 An ongoing book collaboration by NY poet Jeremy Sigler and multidisciplinary artist Mykola Haleta.
